This vibrant street-and-canal scene in Murano, Venice, highlights the beautiful cross between Italian craftsmanship and culture. This photo always reminds me of a tranquil, hot day wandering up and down the streets admiring the incredible work of artisans only found in that one place in the world.
Even in a short trip to Venice for a scientific conference, I remember making the time to visit Murano - and being so disappointed that the glass-making museum was shut, I made time to come back to the island again that same trip.
It's a beautiful island worth making a return trip to, with its colourful, peaceful canals winding through the city and a glass shop for every other building. The demonstration at the glass-making factory most certainly will not disappoint, either.
If you ever find yourself in Venice, Murano is well-worth the visit!
